Corporate boardroom representing governance, strategic oversight, independent directors, and executive decision-making.

Boardroom Value

Boards create value through the quality of the judgement around the table. The most valuable judgement is judgement that has been tested.

Tested Judgement

Judgement is developed when leaders are repeatedly asked to make consequential decisions in uncertain environments. Throughout my career, those decisions have ranged from military leadership and financial regulation to executive leadership, crisis management, and entrepreneurship.

Whether redesigning enterprise risk frameworks, communicating difficult regulatory findings to boards, or rebuilding a business after losing 95% of its revenue during COVID-19, I have learned that effective judgement is rarely formed during routine moments. It is forged through responsibility, strengthened by adversity, and refined through experience.

Board Value: I bring an independent perspective grounded in experience making difficult decisions when the consequences mattered most.

Strategic Risk Oversight

My career has provided the opportunity to evaluate risk from multiple perspectives—as a regulator, an executive, an auditor, and a business owner.

As Chief Auditor of a $6 billion financial institution, I led the redesign of the bank's audit methodology. That initiative included restructuring the audit universe from 135 auditable entities to 67 risk-based entities, redesigning the enterprise risk assessment methodology, developing a dynamic three-year audit plan, and fundamentally improving reporting to the Audit Committee. The result was more meaningful oversight and better visibility into the institution's control environment.

Board Value: I understand how governance structures, risk oversight, and internal controls work together to support informed board decision-making.

Financial & Risk Oversight

Financial oversight requires more than understanding financial statements. It requires understanding the systems, controls, and governance processes that protect an organization over time.

While operating under a regulatory consent order at a multinational financial institution, I designed and implemented an enterprise supplier risk management program from the ground up. The program established end-to-end governance over third-party risk, including due diligence, contracting, ongoing monitoring, and onsite inspections for high-risk vendors. It successfully withstood regulatory scrutiny and contributed to the removal of the regulatory action.

Board Value: I bring practical experience designing governance frameworks that satisfy regulatory expectations while strengthening organizational resilience.

Leadership Under Pressure

Leadership is revealed when circumstances change faster than the playbook.

When COVID-19 reduced my business revenue by more than 95%, survival required far more than perseverance. I developed and executed a comprehensive retrenchment strategy, created new product lines, entered new markets, rebuilt the client base, managed cash flow under extreme constraints, made difficult personnel decisions, and repositioned the business for long-term profitability.

The experience reinforced an important lesson: effective leaders do not wait for certainty. They make disciplined decisions with the information available and adapt as conditions evolve.

Board Value: I understand firsthand how organizations navigate disruption, allocate scarce resources, and emerge stronger from periods of uncertainty.

Governance & Accountability

Throughout my career, I have worked in environments where accountability was not optional—it was fundamental to organizational success.

As a federal bank regulator, I evaluated governance effectiveness independently. As an executive, I became accountable for implementing governance expectations. Experiencing both perspectives reinforced my belief that strong governance is built on transparency, constructive challenge, and directors who ask thoughtful questions before problems become crises.

Board Value: I contribute an independent mindset shaped by both regulatory oversight and executive accountability.

Long-Term Value Creation

Long-term value is created through disciplined strategy rather than short-term reactions.

Across financial services, executive leadership, and business ownership, I have consistently focused on strengthening organizations for the future—whether redesigning enterprise governance, improving risk management, building sustainable operating models, or leading business transformation during periods of disruption.

Those experiences reinforced that sustainable organizations balance growth with resilience, innovation with discipline, and opportunity with thoughtful risk management.

Board Value: I help boards evaluate strategic decisions through the lens of long-term organizational resilience and shareholder value.
